In Deuteronomy 15:11, it says: For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Here at The Life Center for the Homeless, that’s what we’re all about. Our goal is to give a helps up, and not just a hand out. Someone has to help our poor. They come from various walks of life. Some have their addictions, and character defects. Others have experienced burnout, because of living for a long time on the streets, but they are still God’s Children. With God’s Help, our tools, and your partnership, we can make a difference.

Many are from other cities. Then there are those of our city, who travel from shelter to shelter in search of genuine help and assistance. This has been repeated for years by some in the homeless community. That’s one of the reasons why we often meet homeless people, who have repeated the same cycle for 5, 10 or even 15 years. The Life Center is designed to be a Kingdom Post for the homeless and hopefully, the last stop; the Light at the end of the road. Our goal is to help our clients turn everything around in 90 days or less, and just maybe, while they’re going through the process, we can introduce them to The LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Six out of every ten people that we work with are able to get on their feet. For some, it could possibly take a little longer, but as long as they’re putting forth their best effort, we will continue to work with them. We are accustomed to looking beyond a fault to discover the true need.

The people that we deal with have lost everything; job, family and in most cases, their health has begun to deteriorate. Many are just oppressed. In most cases, they are the forgotten ones. Our clients are given another chance to become a productive member of our society.

Proverbs 22:22 says: – Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate.
Proverbs 22:9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Proverbs 31:9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

Our entire Ministry Team are ex street dwellers, who have been born again and delivered from the streets. The Founder and CEO of The Life Center, Pastor Winston James, was once homeless himself for a little over six years, and slept on the streets of downtown Houston, and also in the yard of many of the downtown Houston Churches, before his Deliverance from the streets. He had addictions, problems with authority and had messed up everywhere before receiving God’s Deliverance.

April 2017, The Life Center celebrates 28 years of Service. We have many success stories, lives have been changed, and we have expanded our Services for the homeless community, so we can touch the lives of more of Houston’s most homeless and destitute. All of this was done, because of the Grace of God and his Favor, and partnership. We ask that you would support The Life Center by becoming a Covenant partner. Through your partnership, you assist us with helping the poor and needy, the downtrodden, and also the community. We pray that you become a Covenant partner. We know that God blesses those who bless us, their seed is multiplied, and the Good News is that you are supporting a Vision that serves, educates and represents the neediest of our dear City. you for becoming a Covenant partner. In Triumphant Praise, God bless you.
